Reggae is a genre of music that not only defines a musical movement, but a culture as well. It is the political and protest music of the Caribbean, one with singer/songwriters of such stature as Albert Griffiths and the Gladiators, Leonard Dillon, Gregory Isaacs, and Sugar Minott.
For devoted fans of Reggae, as well as those eager to explore this multi-layered style, Rounder Records' Heartbeat label has put out a series of CDs called Reggae Savers. Reasonably-priced, each album contains a comprehensive selection of the particular artist's music (and in the case of Gregory Isaacs, there is a Volume I and II). The liner notes are not all that abundant, but what you are getting is great music at a great price. Previous Features
